Tipping in Goa
In Goa, it is expected to tip 10% of the total amount of
the bill at restaurants, but you can tip less if the bill is inclusive of
service charges. At major hotels, tip the bellhop (luggage carrier) and the
doorman, if the service is predominantly good. It is also a good idea to tip
considerably more to the caretaker and maintenance staff. One is not
expected to tip taxi drivers. If you have hired a cab for a long period, say
a full day, then it is expected that you tip the driver a small amount.
Expect to find some of the most friendly and chivalrous service at the local
beach shacks. Even if it is only loose change, a small tip will be valued
tremendously and accepted with a warm "Thank You".
